Road: Hi Allyn, haven't seen you in a while.
Me: Ya, I know. Last year just wasn't a year for running.
Road: Well, I'm always here, rain or shine.
Me: Ya, I know. I'll be seeing a lot more of you in the next few months.
Road: Oh good. I love the way your light footsteps tickle my back. You're welcome any time.
It's true: I let 2012 slip away without any official race on the books. After at least one race a year since 2005 I'm not sure what got to me (or didn't). I signed up for the Hangzhou half marathon in November, but at the last minute the organizers changed the date to a weekend when Chris and I were in Hong Kong. No tears were shed, but I decided to make up for my non-running year with the mother of adventure-destination-scenic-challenging races: the Great Wall Half Marathon. I mean, really - how long can I live in China and NOT run the Great Wall?
So I'm back into training mode, which means running more than once a week, logging my details, planning my routes and workouts, and hopefully staying healthy and fit throughout the process. Today's run was actually a perfect introduction back into the scene: at the end of half an hour I felt like I could easily keep going, which will make it that much easier to get out again tomorrow.
Road: See you again soon?
Me: You better believe it.
